»Lisbeth
Tolstrup never settled with the traditional ways of textile expression,
weaving and knitting. Through etnographical studies - primarily
of African culture - and inspired by the new textile art shown
at the biennials of Lausanne and Venice in the 1970s and the
1980s, she has worked in free textile expressions over the years,
combining different materials. Basic geometrical shapes, the
fascination of the patterns in foreign cultures, together with
the exploration of space, form relating to space, and objects
are characteristic of Tolstrups work. Besides her own creative
activity, Tolstrup has also been the coordinator of exhibitions
with new textile art in Denmark at Trapholt [Art Museum of Kolding]
and Textil Set, modern Danish textile art at Herning Art Museum.«

»Lisbeth
Tolstrup har ikke holdt sig til de traditionelle tekstile udtryksformer,
vævning og strikning. Gennem etnografiske studier, især
af den afrikanske kultur, og inspireret af den nye tekstilkunst
som blev vist på Biennalerne i Lausanne og Venezia i 1970erne
og 80erne, har hun gennem årene arbejdet i frie tekstile
udtryksformer med en alsidig sammensætning af materialer.
Geometriske grundformer, fremmede kulturers mønsterrigdomme
samt undersøgelser af rum, rumlig form og objekter præger
Tolstrups arbejder. Ud over sin egen skabende virksomhed har
Tolstrup bl.a. været koordinator af udstillinger om ny
tekstilkunst i Danmark på [Kunstmuseet] Trapholt og Textil
Set, moderne dansk textilkunst på Herning Kunstmuseum.«
